What we see in Woodland homes.

Woodland incorporated in December 1948 as the village of Maplewoods and was renamed Woodland in 1949. It is a small city, and the 2020 census counted 384 people. It has shoreline on Lake Minnetonka, and the Old Stone Arch survives from an estate designed by architect Harry Wild Jones around 1900, built with stones from the lake and restored in 2011. The housing mixes large lakeshore homes from the estate years, mid-century houses built after incorporation, and newer rebuilds, with 189 housing units counted in 2010.

Lakeshore estates bring lake-related items: shoreline retaining walls, docks and stairs, grading toward the water, and lower-level moisture. On older large homes we check stone and masonry, chimneys, flashing, original wiring and heating, and additions. Mid-century houses get the panel, sewer and roof checks; rebuilds get the checks for newer construction, such as flashing, window installation and ventilation. Hennepin County is EPA Radon Zone 1, and MDH recommends every Minnesota home be tested.
