New Construction Inspection in McCallsburg

Because of which glacier got here last. McCallsburg sits on the Des Moines Lobe, where the ice retreated only 12,000 to 14,000 years ago — geologically yesterday. That till has not had time to develop the deep, well-connected drainage of southern Iowa, so the ground is flat and it holds water. For a house, that translates directly: standing water near the foundation, saturated backfill pressing on basement walls, sump systems doing real work rather than sitting idle. So we read grading within the first several feet of the wall, downspout discharge distance, window-well drainage, and the sump pit and its pump and discharge, and inside we look for the staining, efflorescence and rust lines that record water that has already been there.
